Veselé Vánoce and C Новым Годом

View of the Charles Bridge
The taxi showed up at 5:20AM to whisk us off to the airport for our 9:30AM flight.  Going on past experience, this was not unreasonable.  On Christmas Eve, however, we apparently erred way too far on the side of caution.  It took 25 minutes to get to the airport (usually an hour, minimum) and we found ourselves looking for somewhere to have a cup of coffee as the check-in counter was only to open at 7:30AM.  Needless to say, better early than late (especially in Moscow).  You never know what can happen and we certainly weren’t taking any chances.  Despite being almost full, the three hour flight was comfortable and pushed back from the gate 5 minutes early and there were no screaming babies on board (unlike my previous experience earlier in the week).

A  driver met us at the airport and brought us to our hotel.  Check-in wasn’t until 2PM and since it was only 10AM, we had some time to kill.  We decided to explore and take a walk around the city to acquaint ourselves with Prague.  Our walking tour tomorrow will provide background info about what we saw today.

The first impressions of Prague I have to share are all positive.  The city is easily accessible on foot, people are friendly, service is wonderful, and there is so much to see and do.  The weather is mild with no snow anywhere and the gentlest of rain merely adding the drama of a moody sky.  Everyone speaks English and there is something wonderful to discover lurking around every corner.  I’d rate our two meals so far 10/10 for both quality and service.  The lunch place even gave us a Christmas gift of chocolate panettone that would feed a houseful!

I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s adventures.  Happy Channukah and Merry Christmas everyone!  Stay tuned for more ‘notes from beyond’!
