What do Tattooed Vikings, Moose Meat and Stockholm Have In Common?

It has been well over a year since I last posted an entry.  Life events have conspired to make 2013 and 2014 rather challenging but that is not to say that amazing things haven't happened - for better or for worse.  Rather than dwell on what has proven to be challenging beyond measure, I am choosing to focus on the here and now and celebrate all of the ordinary miracles that make up each and every day.

Today's miracle came in the form of a moose meat-wielding, tattooed Viking in a quiet restaurant in Stockholm's Old Town.  If you're ever in the vicinity, check out The Ardbeg Embassy.  I promise it will be well worth your while.

This was by far and away the best meat I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy - humble apologies to my friends of the vegetarian persuasion.  Paired with a glass of Malbec, it was served with white cabbage and leek sizzled with wood-smoked loin of pork from Jokkmokk, a red wine reduction sauce with blueberries and a potato cake.  Delicious.  I will say no more on the subject save to note that my taste buds have now died and gone to heaven.

Enough with the food porn.  My first impressions of Stockholm can be summed up with the following words:  it feels like home.

Our hotel room boasts a private sauna, a whirlpool tub and a lovely view.  My intention is to wake up early, relax in the sauna and then sneak out in the early mornings before breakfast to photograph the empty streets bathed in morning light while Mr. U savours his well-deserved sleep-in.

There is much shopping to do (my wallet is thankful that I only brought carry-on and am too stubborn to buy yet another suitcase so as to avoid what happened in London) and much exploring to do and many photographs to take.  The Viking Museum is high on the priority list as is another visit to the Ardbeg Embassy.  (They have PAGES of whiskey on the menu.  So many choices, so little time.)

For now, I will share a few photos to give you an idea of what beauty surrounds me and then I am off to spend time relaxing in our own, personal sauna.

Godnatt, all!

I want ALL the things.  ALL of them.

How Can You Resist a Pub Named "The Hairy Pig Deli"?
*Mr. U commented that I've become quite the material girl since there are more photos of things than of scenes.  I contend that I haven't yet had enough time to really explore my environment.

My next stop ... Spa Time
